2. Addition= Putting Things Together

      

We can represent Numbers by using blocks. Using manipulates can really help students connect and see the math come to life in their hands.

With any form of math blocks can be used because the blocks represent numbers in physical viewing form. A student might have a hard time adding 10 plus 25 but when he or she has blocks in front of them it usually becomes clearer for them.

Blocks replace the use of symbols for a few steps in the problem solving and this can be very affective in the student’s growth of mathematical knowledge.
